When I first starting cooking, many years ago, steak really intimidated me. I was aware that a lot of people are really particular when it comes to steak. Like how it’s prepared and cooked and all that jazz. Cooking bad steak was not something that I wanted to be known for! Gradually I got over my anxiety of cooking steak by trying easy recipes!
The conception of this recipe is really quite normal. I had all the ingredients on hand and I wanted to be able to make an easy, quick but delicious dinner. And that is exactly what I got! It takes me no longer then 30 minutes to prep and cook this dish and the outcome is incredibly satisfying! Typically I serve this with a starch and salad! This feeds my family of 6 easily and we typically have no leftovers.
Ingredients:
- 1-1 1/2 lbs top sirloin steak
- 2 medium onions cut into strips
- 2 bell peppers cut into strips
- 8 oz sliced mushrooms
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp BBQ sauce
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- Salt and Pepper
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
Directions:
- Preheat a pan on medium high heat for about a minute. While your pan is preheating season both sides of your steak generously with salt and pepper.
- Add 1 tbsp of olive oil or butter and spread it to coat the pan. Add your steak and let it sear on both sides, about 3 minutes per side. Remove the steak and allow it to rest.
- Using the same pan saute your onion strips in the steak juices and 1 tbsp of olive oil. Using your utensil break up all the onions and allow to cook till slightly brown and flexible. About 3-5 minutes.
- Add your bell pepper strips and sliced mushrooms to the pan and saute until the veggies cook down and become tender. Stir occasionally! About 3-5 minutes.
- Add 1/4 cup of beef broth, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire, soy sauce to a measuring cup and give it a good stir. In a small bowl stir 1/4 cup beef broth and cornstarch together.
- Holding a sharp knife at an angle cut steak into thin pieces. Add steak back into the pan and stir everything together. Reduce heat to low and pour the sauce and cornstarch slurry over the steak and veggies. Stir thoroughly to coat everything in the sauce.
- Once the the sauce starts to thicken up turn the heat off, should only take 2-3 minutes. You did it, you’re all done!
- Enjoy!
