My Homemade Baked Mac & Cheese is made with so much love that you can taste it with every single bite.
Love and a lot of cheese! Seriously though, there’s something about Homemade Baked Mac & Cheese that feels like home. That’s why it’s a perfect recipe to make for Mother’s Day in my opinion! Since a little does go a long way with this dish I like to pair this with a salad or broccoli! And a little buffalo chicken right on top of course!
Ingredients:
- 1 lbs elbow pasta
- 6 tablespoons of butter
- 1/3 cup flour
- 2 cups of milk
- 12 oz can evaporated milk
- 1/2-3/4 cup pasta water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 1/2 cups shredded gouda
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
Directions:
- In a large pot cook pasta 1 minute less then the directions suggests. Reserve pasta water before draining completely. Set pasta aside.
- Using the same pot over medium high heat, melt 6 tablespoons of butter. Add flour and whisk for about 1 minute.
- Slowly add 2 cups of milk while continuously whisking. Repeat with the evaporated milk and pasta water.
- Toss in all the seasonings and mix well. Reduce heat and simmer till thickened, about 5 minutes. Turn heat off.
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Add shredded cheeses in stages, mixing in between. Once all the cheese is added toss in your elbows and mix really well until all the macaroni is coated.
- Lightly grease a 9 x 13 baking dish with a little nonstick spray. Pour all the mac & cheese into the 9 x 13. Sneak a little bite.
- Now it’s time to assemble the panko topping! Using a small bowl combine panko breadcrumbs and 3 tablespoons melted butter. Evenly distribute the topping across the top of the mac & cheese.
- Bake till golden brown, about 25-28 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes and serve!
- Enjoy!
Notes:
- For best results I highly suggest buying blocks of cheese and freshly shredding them.
- Pair this with my Sweet & Creamy Thai Iced Tea! You won’t regret it!
